Hiatus

I’m taking a hiatus from Facebook. While many have deemed it a social-networking tool, for me it has become a procrastination tool. Recently, life has become excessively busy—more so than usual. With three jobs, two kids to care for, and a laborious pursuit of writing, there is really little reason for me to spend precious time on the site. Sure, I like keeping up with everyone’s lives. And while I enjoy finding out what Disney character I am most like as much as the next person, it is time to concentrate on other things. With my youth in the rear view mirror and health issues beginning to crop up, I have reevaluated what is important. Hint: It’s not Facebook. Before I know it, my kids will be grown, I will be another decade older, and what will I have to show for my life? Hours spent in front of a computer, perusing a social networking site? Hopefully not. So it’s time to participate in some real, human interaction by checking in with the kids, having dinner with a friend, and doing things that (to me) are more relevant than posting status updates and taking quizzes. I am not knocking them. They are much like down time spent in front of the TV (which we thankfully do not have access to either). A human being cannot keep going without some kind of break. I just think I’ll find my breaks somewhere else for awhile.

  1. It will have to be next week. Jeff is taking a big wall climbing class this weekend. Do you want to go out next week?
