Resolutions and Whatnot

Happy New Year’s Eve to All!

I thought of creating a blog post about my intentions and goals for 2012. But I’ve decided to commit to only one thing: being a better person. In 2011, I had so very much on my plate. I felt as though I spent most of my time juggling things: chauffeuring the kids, homework, doctors appointments for the youngest, work, writing, reading, figuring out an educational path for my youngest son who has special needs, and remaining committed to my friends (both offline and through the blog community).

Sure, I want to finish two of my first-draft novels. I want to rewrite the memoir and make it the best it can be. I have ideas galore stuck in my head, scratching to get out. But, the fact of the matter is, life happens. Often non-writing obligations take precedence over finishing a work-in-progress. And that’s okay. The month of December and the holidays have taught me to slow down and appreciate the moment. Sometimes, interruptions from my kids or the phone feel endless and make me crabby. But I’ve decided—in 2012 (and even starting now)—to embrace them. My kids will not be kids forever. And I should simply appreciate that there are people out in the real world who still want to talk to me. So, as far as New Year’s resolutions go, that is mine.

What is your New Year’s resolution (if you are one of those who make them)?

I wish each and every one of you a very blessed 2012.

  1. Crap, no one wants to talk to me, the cat gets all the attention..haha Sounds like an easy enough one to do, good luck.

  2. Embracing what you've been given and appreciating it sounds like a very healthy resolution and I wish you much luck with it. BUT I think you ought to carve out at least a small weekly chunk of time in which you allow yourself to ignore the phone.

    Happy New Year!

  3. I'd like to try Leo Babauta's focus on one thing at a time goal-making too - I'm a chronic multi-tasker and it's stressful!

Thanks for coming by - my friend said it took months to cut the video for his Around the World in 5 minutes, but I have no idea how long he traveled for - I think a few years.

  4. That sounds like a fantastic resolution. Far, far better to embrace everything you have rather than getting annoyed with it for keeping you from writing.

    Happy new year!
