Six Things I Did Today...Now That I'm Back in Cyber Space

  1. Unpack. We were gone. Rock climbing.
  2. Laundry. Wash the clothes we unpacked.
  3. Grocery Shopping. We’re pretty empty here. That tends to happen when you’re not around.
  4. Get Proofreading Suggestions to a Friend. I took my Kindle along with a manuscript to read. I made all my notes in a notebook (the old-fashioned way), so I need to translate them to the Word document and send them off to the writer.
  5. Revise. We’ll see if this happens today. It’s hard coming off a trip.
  6. Relax. Rock climbing and hiking took a lot out of me. I’ve realized that I’m grossly out of shape. Time to whip up a new work-out regimen.

Travel Tuesday

Another week of Travel Tuesday is brought to you by...
my completed travel memoir, OUR LIFE ON THE ROAD.

Where? City of Rocks National Reserve/Castle Rocks State Park, Idaho

When? Summer. But make sure to drink lots of water.

Why? Amazing rock climbing!

Located in south-central Idaho, the area features granite spires and monoliths that rise out of the sagebrush like a municipality. Granite—the best type of rock to climb, in my opinion—makes the routes thoroughly enjoyable. Even more so than those in California’s Joshua Tree National Park. There is a wide range of classic routes in the park, spanning from 5.7 to 5.11c. Camping is available with reservations inside City of Rocks.

Rock City—a store and restaurant in the town of Almo—edges the park. It has a comfortable and laid-back atmosphere, and offers terrific pizza on certain nights of the week.

If you’re not a rock climber, the area also attracts mountain bikers and birders. But the main appeal is definitely the rock. So, climb on!

Reading and Rock Climbing

I love them both. One I do a lot. The other: not so much anymore. However, in the days before children, my husband and I would climb quite a bit. In fact, we were good. We ascended routes in Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon, South Dakota, and Colorado. In fact, hubby used to do a lot of mountain climbing pre-me.

To show the two are not mutually exclusive…

We introduced Justin to both simultaneously. This was at the base of a climb in AZ.

As for reading, I am always doing some (or a lot) of that. In fact, here is what I have on my radar to read in the near future:

Crank by Ellen Hopkins

Identical by Ellen Hopkins

Impulse by Ellen Hopkins

Can you tell I like Ellen Hopkins?

Driving with Dead People by Monica Holloway

Finding Beauty in a Broken World by Terry Tempest Williams

So get on out there and read some books and climb some granite (or whatever your rock of choice happens to be).
