Tuesday Check-In

There has been a lot of non-writerly stuff happening lately. Unfortunately, this makes writing take a back-back seat. But I have managed to work here and there. Not anywhere to the degree I’d like to. Not to the extent to where I can legitimately call myself a writer. So I’ve decided to post my progress. By putting out there for everyone to see, I keep myself accountable. Right?

Memoir (Our Life on the Road): This is currently out to three different readers for feedback. As much as I tried in revisions to make it a true memoir, it really is a travel memoir at heart. And I’m okay with that. The national parks shaped the entire book anyway.

Trilogy: I’ve made next to no progress since the last time I checked in. Maybe one page—oh-so-very sad. But I think about it often, which helps me with deeper development.

Adult Contemporary: My 2010 NaNo book. It has been completed for quite some time. I have managed revisions and edits to page 70ish. It needs a lot of work. It’s the first book I wrote in third-person. Reading it is obvious that third-person POV is not my forte.

MG Horror: This one is very new. My nine-year-old son and I (on a whim in the car one day) came up with a series idea. He is extremely creative, and we have already plotted out three of the books in the series. We starting writing the first book yesterday. A total blast! We managed 531 words. He said that once we reach the end of the first incident, he’ll take over the typing. We’ll see if he follows through with that. I think he likes to dictate the words instead (and he is a slow typer).

What are you working on? New words? Revisions? Or taking a summer break?

  2. How awesome is it that you and your son are working together on a MG horror series! Incredible!

And boy, do you have a lot of projects going all at once. I'm a little bit envious.

Currently, I'm completing a round of revisions on the draft of Book 2 of a series. And then I have to face the skimpy outline I have for Book 3 and decide: Try to outline some more? Or jump in and let the pantster loose?

  3. I am working on my first round of edits for my debut novel (yay me!) coming out next year. Who knew there was still so much revising to be done?
