Read Across America

"You're never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read to a child."

Today is Dr. Seuss’s birthday + Read Across America Day + the birthday of my best friend from high school. (Happy Birthday, Sam and Dr. Seuss).

So no matter who you are—a parent, a planner, an office manager—pick up a book, have a look, read some pages to smiling faces, spread literacy far and wide. The reward will be bonafide.

Having been a reading specialist in a previous life (all right, it was more like five years ago), Read Across America Day is one of my favorite school days! Make sure to spread the word and read, read, read to a child.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is The Lorax, so we will most definitely be reading that one today.

  1. In my fogginess this morning I told my daughter it was Captain Hook's birthday, thinking I totally said Dr. Seuss. I need more sleep.

My oldest is home sick today and missing out on the reading fun I so love.

  5. Dr. Suess is the best! I started reading Cat in the Hat and Green Eggs & Ham to Seth before he was born. :-)
