My Life as a Misfit is now available in e-book form on Amazon and Smashwords. It’s a short collection of humorous memoirs about adolescence in the 1980s. I sent it out into the world more as an experiment in Indie Publishing—a surprisingly enlightening, enjoyable, yet time-consuming endeavor. It was more of a way to prepare myself for the release of my first novel, Fractured, sometime in May 2012.
There are four stories:
Do-Si-Don’t
What happens when you put a group of sweaty, adolescent seventh graders together to square dance? Chaos, humiliation, and B.O. to name a few things.
Riding a Permanent Wave
A behind-the-scenes look at the misfortune of life with Toni home perms, beauty parlors, and a mother’s hatred of straight hair.
Baseball
My one-season love of America ’s pastime that involves a crush on a famous baseball player and Dairy Queen sundaes.
The Food Critic
When you’re a child who’ a picky eater, there’s only one of two things you can do: become a food critic or a Mafioso leader.
You can sample or purchase the e-book at either
Amazon or Smashwords. It's only $0.99 for purchase.
More to come on my Indie journey in upcoming posts.

That's great! I'm heading over to purchase it now!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I had no idea you were doing this. I might be able to relate to life in the 80s though I was a curly girl coveting straight hair. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, congrats, indie publishing can be an interesting endeavor to say the least.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!! It looks like I might have a flashback to my own childhood. LOL. And I had no idea you were a Coloradoan. Go, Colorado writers!
ReplyDeleteYou're just full of surprises!
ReplyDeleteOh, how exciting! And I really love that cover. It's got an I-don't-feel-quite-comfortable-in-myself feel to it, which matches the title and stories perfectly.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your release! :)
