October is Bullying Prevention Awareness Month. Bullying is a serious issue in our society, and it comes in many forms. It can be physical, such as fighting, pushing, and name-calling. It can happen covertly through insidious gossip that results in emotional trauma. And it can even happen in cyber space via nasty and hurtful texting or emailing.
OUTCAST, my upcoming YA Contemporary novel, deals with the issue of bullying.
OUTCAST, my upcoming YA Contemporary novel, deals with the issue of bullying.
Always the compliant, Catholic school girl, Noelle grows
tired of people’s hypocrisy. Her pious mother belittles her, and the popular
group at school bullies her. With the help of her black-sheep aunt and a
defiant, new classmate, Noelle seeks revenge. But vengeance comes with a price:
Noelle risks friendship, her first love, and herself to get back at those who
have wronged her.
If you know of someone who is being bullied--or if you are experiencing bullying yourself--there are resources to help. One of the great online ones I found is Pacer's National Bullying Prevention Center. It is very kid-directed and offers great information for adults and parents, too. Don't let bullying control your life. Empower yourself or your loved one. Stand up and speak out against bullying.

If you need a reader...send it my way! So glad you're tackling this subject!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's also the film called "Bully." I haven't seen it myself, but I have heard that it explores this pertinent and timely issue quite well.
