Rebel Writer's Pledge 2012

What is the Rebel Writer's Pledge? you ask. Sheri Larson at Writers Ally  is hosting this blog hop to rebel against our views from last year that hindered us from reaching our goals, and give us new insight and a fresh start.

So today, we post our writing and/or life goals for the year 2012, highlighting at least one to add to the pledge.

Without further adieu, here are my writing (and life) goals for 2012:

  • Find reliable beta readers and critique partners. I have had such unbelievably back luck in this arena in the past. I know it is key to making my work the best it can be. It's just that...where do I find readers who are willing to give me feedback? Readers who don't bail on me or fall off the face of the earth?
  •
  • Continue to research and educate myself about the business of Indie publishing.
  •
  • E-publish Fractured (my Adult Contemporary novel), Outcast (one of my YA Contemporary novels), and a book of short stories by the end of 2012. They have been around in various states since 2002 and have undergone numerous revisions.
  •
  • Complete the first draft of my YA paranormal-esque novel, Haunted. It was my 2011 NaNoWriMo book.
  •
  • Edit/revise my YA novel, Superstition Gold.
  •
  • Turn my screenplay, Surviving San Francisco, into a novel. If you think it’s hard breaking into the world of publishing, try the movie industry. Yikes!
  •
  • Fully develop and begin writing my YA trilogy, Guardians.
  • Remain fully present throughout each day. Sometimes I have so much going on—a lot of which is trivial, such as cleaning and laundry. I want to enjoy the journey in both authorship and family. What is today may not be what is tomorrow. (My highlighted goal).

Possible? Maybe

Likey? With a little luck and dedication, yes.

Make sure you click here to check out the other amazing writers on the hop. And many thanks to Sheri for hosting!

  1. Hi Susan. I wrote along the same lines that include the family. There is that balance we have to strike and those trivial things will try to rob us of what's really important.

  2. Hi! I'm here for the Rebel Writer's blog hop. I love your highlighted goal. Remaining present is tough sometimes. Good luck with it. I'm a new follower.

  3. I think it's good to put your goals "out there" in a public forum because it creates a kind of accountabilty. Now you feel like you can't NOT do these things, because you told everyone you would! Adds motivation I think :-)

  4. Totally possible! You can do it! Stop by the #WritersRoad chat on Twitter Monday nights at 6pm PT. It's full of great writers who are always willing to help. Maybe you'll meet a few crit partners there.

And when you're ready to publish, I'm a book cover designer so I hope you'll look me up. :)

  5. Great list of goals! It is very importantt to have the right critique partners and beta readers, no question about it! I also love your highlighted goal of "Remain fully present throughout each day". I think we can all adapt that to our lives and work. Good luck with all of the goals!

  6. I like your highlighted goal especially the part "enjoy the journey in both authorship and family." I always feel pressured to finish my manuscript that I often forget to enjoy the journey and the process of writing. Thanks for sharing with us your list. It's a good reminder for me to do mine as well :)

  10. Sounds possible indeed, also agree it's nice to have ones who give feedback and not drop off the face of the earth..haha...pffft I wouldn't even want to attempt to break into the movie industry with a screenplay, that is one hostile bunch there.

  13. Susan, you have some lofty goals plus some laudable accomplishments. I was pleasantly amazed at all you have writtn, started to write and already have published.
You wrote a screenplay from scratch and are turning it into a novel.
Have just three words for you:
    Good on ya Susan.

    My best to Zane.

  14. Look to your trusted bloggy friends for critique partners. I've found some wonderful ones there. I've also found great cps at conferences. I hope you are able to find some this year.

  15. I fortunately have had good luck with cps, they've changed my writing and my life :) I wish you luck with this because a good cp is so invaluable! I love your highlighted goal, so true!
Thanks for joining the Valentine's day bloghop, I look forward to reading your scene:)

  17. love love love these and your highlighted one is a personal one I've also made too!

Where have you been looking for critters in the past? I know, it's very hit or miss and many times critiques are one shots. I really only have 2 long-terms when I started with 5.

  18. Remain fully present. That's a beautiful way to put it! Wow, you have a lot of great goals. I don't know how in the world you write a screenplay! The talent you must have just boggles my mind!

  19. I'm so lucky to have found excellent crit partners. The best thing is I found them almost immediately after I started looking for them.

Good luck with achieving your goals. :-)

  20. Awesome! I admit my goal list is a lot shorter than yours, but I think you're totally able to pull it off. :)

  21. I really like that last one. I try to remind myself of that too... and have a blog post coming up regarding that very subject.
Anyway, I'd be happy to exchange stories with you later down the line.... like in a few months. I'm booked up for now, but always like to exchange stories after they've been revised like five times. So check with me say, in May? i know thats a ways away, but it goes by fast!

  22. Nice list! I hope you achieve them all. As for #1, I found some of my crit partners on the Querytracker forums. There's a place where you can ask for CPs in your genre. Good luck!

  24. You set a lot of goals for this year which shows me that you are motivated and dedicated to make 2012 an awesome and productive year. Good luck

  25. Hi Susan
All fabulous goals. My critique group has disbanded, so I am looking for one or two dedicated writers as critique partners. We can test each other out first, see if we are a good fit. I have years of experience, but grammar is not my strength. Let me know.

  26. I missed this hop, but I think it's such a great idea and it's inspiring to read your goals! This reminds me that I need to make my own list and get started on them. If I don't hurry up, it will be time for 2013 goals before I even set goals for this year. Thanks for sharing and good luck with meeting your goals!
