We recently watched Ghostbusters with my older son. A couple
of things: 1) it was far racier than I remembered and not so appropriate for my
kiddo and 2) it was not as funny to me today as it was back in the 80s.
Although, my son really liked the sliming part.
Today, paranormal reality shows are huge. In fact, when I watched
Ghostbusters this last time, I realized how closely it resembles Ghost Adventures
on the Travel Channel.
Similarities:
There are three ghost hunters in both the movie and the TV
show.
Murray, Aykroyd, and Ramis have all this equipment: proton
packs, ecto containment units, a P.K.E. meter, and uniforms. Zak, Nick, and
Aaron have night vision cameras, a quantum flux detector, EVP detectors, and tattoos.
Both groups always find ghosts.
Both Murray and Bagans have the whole flirtation factor
happening when there’s an attractive woman around.
Bill Murray isn't the only comedian in the house.
There's sexual innuendo present in both the movie and the TV show (as evidence in the Ghost Adventures video below).
The thing I said earlier about the humor.
Some of the ghosts don't seem very authentic.
Was this guy in Ghostbusters or Ghost Adventures? I can't remember.
Differences:
To my knowledge, Zak has never been slimed.
They have not yet encountered a 112-foot tall Stay Puft
marshmallow man. Or did I miss that episode?
How about you? Have you seen Ghostbusters? Recently? Do you still think it's funny? How about Ghost Adventures? Anything to add?

I've never watched the movie. But it's amazing how we notice those little things when we watch old movies/shows with our kids. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really watch the ghost hunting shows, but the clip was funny. I've seen Ghostbusters more times than I can count. It's shown quite regularly in the UK. I actually think it gets better!
