Given the difficult subject-matter, I was impressed by Cullen’s writing and how he moved the reader through the events, the backgrounds, the truths, and the falsehoods of the Columbine massacre in 1999. Very disturbing to read about it in depth, but it helped me understand the tragedy better and, more importantly, to get to know the victims from the day.

…if I can renew it at the library since I didn't get around to it this past week, or…
which I just picked up at a used bookstore in town.
What are you reading this week?

I downloaded some free books from Kindle. Never heard of the authors but they had some five star reader reviews so I thought I'd give them a shot.
ReplyDeleteI think I will put the Columbine book on my TBR list. I know it will be difficult, but I'm really interested in it. I read an interview with Cullen after the recent movie theater slaughter and he impressed me.
ReplyDeleteThe Language of Flowers is a great title, I'd never heard of that one.
Definitely not easy to read in places. I finished the book a few days ago and am still disturbed by the shooters--one in particular.
DeleteHi, Susan,
ReplyDeleteYou do get through a few books. I'm still on Toby Neal's Torch Ginger, but that might be because I'm distracted with a project that's taking some time to finalize.
I have On Writing on my TBR shelf. I should pick that up again! You have some intense selections this week. Thanks for stopping by my WWW today :)
ReplyDeleteStephen King's On Writing is one of his best. Not only does it have useful tips for writers, but his autobiography is very touching and has lots of King's brand of humor. I hope you enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WWW Wednesdays Post.
i have been reading "fear to freedom" by rosemary trible---and "the white queen" by philippa gregory--:)
ReplyDeleteON Reading was a great book. Lots of good tips from King.

I'm reading Provex City by Michael Pierce. Just started it yesterday. Very good so far!
ReplyDeleteI just finished My Life as a Misfit today!!! Loved it.
ReplyDeleteAlso finished My Zombie Dog by Charmaine Clancy this week. Loved it.
Not sure what I'll read next. Hmmmm.
Have you read Jennifer Brown's Hate List yet? I think it might be one that you might like. One of these days I'll get around to reading Columbine but I think it might just be too hard.
ReplyDeleteMy WWW Wednesday is here.
This month already got off to a really busy start so the last book I read was Article 5. Currently, I'm reading works-in-progress by a few writerly buds and The Emotion Thesaurus is going to my next read...or at least it will be for working on these revisions I have.
ReplyDeleteDo enjoy your stories. So many have raved about Stephen King's On Writing.
Love your selection this month! We have very similar tastes in books. I am rereading The Language of Flower. I picked it for my book club this month and I have had person tell me already that she LOVED it.
ReplyDeleteHere's my WWW
The King book 'On Writing' is probably my second favorite writing book ever (after Anne Lamott's 'Bird by Bird'. I hope you get a chance to read it soon as I don't think you'll be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteJodi Picoult is on my to read list!
