Are You a Summer Reader or Writer?

Are you a reader or a writer during the summer time? I like to think of myself as both. But the reality is: it’s hard to get a whole lot of writing done during the summer with the kids home. Not only do I want to spend time with them, but they don’t quite grasp the concept of “me” time…for me.

I’ve penned a few words since school let out. My goal was to achieve 2K a day. Well, that hasn’t happened. At all. In fact, I’m lucky if I reach 750.

So I guess that makes me more of a reader than a writer.

I have a huge TBR stack. But while I was out of state, I finished my library book and had nothing else to read. Sure, I could have written. My computer made the trip with me. I swear it even called out to me: “Open me up. Come on, write a few words.” Instead, I went to the B&N and found Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer in the bargain section. So that’s what I’m reading right now.

So…are you a summer reader or a summer writer? Or are you both?

  1. Not sure if I'll be writing this summer, but I do plan on reading quite a few books while it's quite in the blogging world!

  2. I don't get as much writing done during the summer as I would like, either. But it is a great time for reading! And that's better than nothing :-)

  3. I'm hoping to be both this summer. Usually I'm a reader, but two summer's ago I proved to myself that I could also be a writer, so I shall try to bring that Nicki back...once we return for our trip out west, that is.

  5. Since I'm a teacher, I have the opposite experience of most writers I know, who can't get any writing done with the children home.

Summer is my massive writing time, AND I also get time to read. It's amazing how many hours there are in the day when I have no classes to teach, lesson plans to write, papers to grade! Hurray for summer (which starts at 2pm today for me).

  6. When I was in school, I'd binge read over the summer. Writing was more a steady and regular thing I did not matter what. Since I have the kids with me all year, it was good conditioning. Now with regular reading and writing goals, I usually make significant progress. Slow and steady wins the race, eh?

  7. I am more of a summer reader than writer. I've got a huge stack I'm enjoying right now while my wip is getting ignored. But that's ok because I look at reading as motivation and instruction for writing.

  8. Oh, I read a lot, so it doesn't matter if it's summer or winter.

  9. I'm hoping to be both a summer reader and writer...but so far life has taken over and I am not doing much of either. I hope that will change soon. Hope things are well with you :)

  10. Both! Lately the reading has been calling, though, and I'm procrastinating on all my edits!

  11. I'd like to think both, but *sighs* the reality is that the lazy, hazy days of summer tend to work their magic and I read more (except when I snooze off reading). But with all you're doing, 750K sounds great!
