Six Things I Did Today Instead of Writing

I know, I know...typing this blog constitutes writing. But when I say writing, I mean working on my current wip or revising those manuscripts sitting on my harddrive. Okay, now that it's settled, here's my day so far in a nutshell...

  1. Worked on tomorrow’s blog. There WiLL bE a GiveaWay! Sylvia Ney at Writing in Wonderland is hosting a Wonderland Giveaway Blogfest. So stop back tomorrow, and then hop around to the other participants’ sites.
  2. Talked on the Phone. My friend and I both have sons going into second grade next week. Today we could call the office to find out their class assignments. So we compared notes and created our black wish list of kids we don't want to see in our sons' classes (i.e., the kids with the overbearing and bullying natures).
  3. Played Writer’s Assistant. The oldest is writing a series of books. He wanted me to be his assistant: hand him papers, sharpen his pencils, and clean up his mess J
  4. Snooped around WriteOnCon. It starts tomorrow, but some of the forums are up and running today.
  5. Visited (and am still visiting) Other Blogs. I have been a bad blog visitor this summer. I need to catch up with all the fabulous people I follow.
  6. Opened My Manuscript. Can you say procrastination? But seriously, it is very hard to concentrate on writing when the 7 and 4 year olds need something, say, every fifteen minutes or so.

  1. Now I feel both meta and silly because I'm procrastinating my own revisions by reading this post. :)

    Thanks for the bday wishes!!

  2. Dear Susan,
you have spoken out of my heart! We find so many things that are more important than writing (and sometimes they are!). But I see that you published a lot - so maybe one only needs to warm up, as in sports? Shirley Conrad handed out a good advice how to follow one's track - when I'm back from Munich, I will look that up.

  3. Dear Susan, I don't know if my comment from a moment ago vanished in the air (here in Munich I have little and difficult access to the Internet) - if not: of course I mispelled her name, it's Shirley Conran.

  5. I love that you're a writer's assistant! I'm taking it your seven year old doesn't assist you in the same way? ;)

  6. Sounds like you are keeping busy, you'll be back on track soon enough.

  7. Yeah, I did that too. I do way too much of that and not the other things that I really need to do. Well, it's all kind of important.

  8. Ha! This sounds alllll too familiar. It's so strange that procrastination runs rampant among writers. Writing's what we love to do best (well, hopefully), but we find a million excuses NOT to do it. What is with that?
