Flashback Fridays

Show of hands. Who out there used to watch The Facts of Life? Or maybe, if you were merely a twinkle in someone’s eye, you’ve seen it on TV Land in reruns.

The show was a spinoff from Diff’rent Strokes. You know, the “whatcha talkin’ ‘bout, Willis” show? The premise was that Edna Garrett, the housekeeper from Diff’rent Strokes, becomes a housemother at an all-female boarding school in New York. Of course, obstacles and conflict ensue throughout every episode.

While the main cast didn’t go on to super-fame, the show did star some others you might know of today:

George Clooney played contractor, George Burnett.

Molly Ringwald (of 80s fame) played Molly Parker. (Notice how they both used their real first names?)

Lauren Tom (Joy Luck Club; Julie on Friends; voice of Inez on King of the Hill) played recurring character, Miko Wakamatsu.

Jami Gertz played snobby Boots St. Clair

Don't you just miss the 80s?

  4. I TOTALLY miss the 80's!!! And I was an extreme Facts of Life Fan back then--here's a crazy coincidence: just a few days ago on the TLC show "What Not To Wear" they ambushed Mindy Cohan who played Natalie---it was fun to see her again. I enjoyed it so much, it was then that I realized how much I missed the 80's...:)

  7. I stopped watching in the George Clooney years, not because of him but I didn't relate to them as adults.
Yes, I miss the 80's too, specifically my body from the 80's:)

  8. Ha! I remember that show! Watched far too much of it. I always liked the chubby girl - Mindy? Something like that. She always got the crappy end of the stick. I recall seeing George Clooney and thinking that guy was just WAY too good looking for sitcoms. No surprise he became such a big star.
    Thanks for the flashback Susan!

  9. I loved this show so much. The theme song is now stuck in my head. George Clooney was the most memorable minor character in my book.

  12. Sounds like a great show, but I don't think I've ever seen it.

Hahaha it's strange to see George Clooney with hair that isn't grey.

    :-)
