Show of hands. Who out there used to watch The Facts of
Life? Or maybe, if you were merely a twinkle in someone’s eye, you’ve seen it
on TV Land in reruns.
The show was a spinoff from Diff’rent Strokes. You know, the
“whatcha talkin’ ‘bout, Willis” show? The premise was that Edna Garrett, the
housekeeper from Diff’rent Strokes, becomes a housemother at an all-female
boarding school in New York .
Of course, obstacles and conflict ensue throughout every episode.
While the main cast didn’t go on to super-fame, the show did
star some others you might know of today:
George Clooney played contractor, George Burnett.
Molly Ringwald (of 80s fame) played Molly Parker. (Notice how they both used their real first names?)
Lauren Tom (Joy Luck Club; Julie on Friends; voice of Inez
on King of the Hill) played recurring character, Miko Wakamatsu.
Jami Gertz played
snobby Boots St. Clair
Don't you just miss the 80s?

I do miss the 80's! I never saw this show. Guess I really missed out!
ReplyDeleteYAY! for Facts of Life. I loved that show. ;D
ReplyDeleteI used to watch the show. Jo was my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI TOTALLY miss the 80's!!! And I was an extreme Facts of Life Fan back then--here's a crazy coincidence: just a few days ago on the TLC show "What Not To Wear" they ambushed Mindy Cohan who played Natalie---it was fun to see her again. I enjoyed it so much, it was then that I realized how much I missed the 80's...:)
ReplyDeletei loved this show--it did go on past it's prime in my humble opinion :)
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the show, but I had to laugh at bemulleted George. :D
ReplyDeleteI stopped watching in the George Clooney years, not because of him but I didn't relate to them as adults.
ReplyDeleteYes, I miss the 80's too, specifically my body from the 80's:)
Ha! I remember that show! Watched far too much of it. I always liked the chubby girl - Mindy? Something like that. She always got the crappy end of the stick. I recall seeing George Clooney and thinking that guy was just WAY too good looking for sitcoms. No surprise he became such a big star.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the flashback Susan!
His hair though. HIS HAIR. Ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteI loved this show so much. The theme song is now stuck in my head. George Clooney was the most memorable minor character in my book.
ReplyDeleteOh, I used to LOVE this show! It was on every day at 3:30 pm after school and I watched it religiously.
ReplyDeleteI think you just made my bones ache! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great show, but I don't think I've ever seen it.
ReplyDeleteHahaha it's strange to see George Clooney with hair that isn't grey.
:-)
How did I never realize that was Molly Ringwald??? Awesome job collecting these pictures.
ReplyDeleteP.S. You did write a review of Three Daves - see, I have it lilnked on my Reviews page under "Memoirs of a Writer." ;)
Nicki, I want to write one for Amazon and Goodreads, too.
