Six Things I Did Today

6

  1. Read. I'm about 150 pages into The Book Thief. At first I didn't think I was going to like it, but it has captured my attention now.
  2. Went to the Pool. The boys and I are in Phoenix right now, avoiding the hazy skies of Southwest Colorado. It's well over 100 degrees here, so that pool was a nice place to be.
  3. Took a Nap. Yesterday was a bit busy. My dad took my older son and me to the Diamondbacks/Cubs game in downtown Phoenix. We took the light rail in searing temps, too. Plus, I stayed up late last night watching a show on the History Channel. I feel asleep reading The Book Thief.
  4. Tried Not to Fret. There are some nasty wildfires surrounding our town. I'm reminding myself that there are certain things in life I can't control. Someone's stupidity or a lightning strike are two of those things.
  5. Exercised with my Younger Kiddo. But he's just not all that motivated due to this heat.
  6. Revisions. Tonight I have to work on revisions for SUPERSTITIONS.

What did you do today?

  1. Hopefully the wildfire stop and a nap is nice too.

  2. Good luck with the wildfires. That is scary, but it sounds like you needed a vacation anyway and it's true that there is nothing you can do about it but wait. Still, that sucks. I saw them from the air flying over CO last week.

  3. See, yeah...I had that same reaction to The Book Thief. Everyone said how good it was, but I just didn't connect with it at first. Maybe I should pick it up again and read.

I'm finalizing three freelance articles and then continuing to map out three novels.

  7. I consider any day that includes a nap to be a success. :) It is very wise to release anxiety over things you can't control...even still, may the fires die down and keep a wide berth from your home.

  10. My husband's brother and family live in Phoenix. The situation with the fires is worrisome. That Colorado fire is too scary for words. Glad you're out of there. Stay safe!

I gave "The Book Thief" every chance but just couldn't slug through it, a rarity for me as I'm good about finishing books. Anyway, I felt like I'd missed something, what with all the rave reviews, so returned to it. Closed the book again.

  12. The wildfires here in Colorado are crazy this year! I'm having a love-hate with these recent storms...need some rain but the lightening can stay away. I am sending my thoughts your way, hoping the fires don't reach your home! Enjoy your time in Arizona- I am glad you are getting a chance to get out of the smokey air...It's horrible all over the state!

  13. Work work and some more work. I guess I'll have fun later or tomorrow. :) I agree that you should try to avoid worrying about those things you can't control.

  14. Sounds like a darned good day, Susan. Take care and be safe during this terrible fire.

  15. I have some friends in Phoenix that I'd like to visit, but maybe in the cooler time of year. Phoenix gets so darn hot! I'll be there in a couple weeks, but just quickly passing through with perhaps a quick lunch stop as we head toward obnoxiously hot and humid Houston. Yikes!
