A: Alcohol and Drug Abuse

If you’re here for the A to Z Challenge, you’ve come to the right place. This is my third year taking part in the Challenge, and I learned from experience that it’s best to have a theme. That said, I am teaming up with YA Author Rebecca Green Gasper this year, and we’re harnessing the power of three under the theme...
YA Causes/Tough Issues.

So what does that look like?

Moxie Writers will briefly address a YA Cause or Tough Issue facing teens, then offer organizations that aid in the cause, starting with the appropriate letter of the alphabet.

At Rebecca’s blog, she will list a book and characters associated with the issue of the day. This may or may not begin with the designated letter.

Here at my blog, I will share a song with some of the lyrics that pertains to the cause.

Thus, the power of three!

So let’s get started with A!
Alcohol and Drug Abuse

They tried to make me go to rehab but I said 'no, no, no'
Yes I've been black but when I come back you'll know know know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab but I won't go go go

Unfortunately, Amy Winehouse died in 2011 at the age of 27 as a result of alcohol poisoning.

You can visit Moxie Writers for organizations that can help with alcohol and drug abuse problems.

  1. I haven't listened to this song for ages, but it used to be one of my favourites. Thanks for sharing it. :-)

  2. That is rather ironic, isn't it? And very sad.

  3. Kudos for starting off the fest with such a tough topic that faces a lot of people!

  4. Great idea to split your topic between three of you. Amy Winehouse was such a talented lady. A great loss.

  5. You would think (hope?) Amy's experience would be instructive for a lot of people.
Probably not everyone, but maybe someone will get the message...?

  6. Hi, Susan,

A topic much needed. WELL DONE to you and Rebecca. You two ladies are such a positive force with these heated issues. Awareness is the KEY.... Thanks for keeping us INFORMED of what really matters in life. Watching out for our youth.... after all without them, there will be no future!

  7. Excellent subject. My biological father was an alcoholic. Now, when people ask me to drink I tell them that I get into enough trouble sober. Have a great challenge! :-)

  8. I haven't heard this song in ages and it's hard to listen to now considering Winehouse's death. What a sad situation.

So glad you are on board for the A-Z again Susan! And I am so impressed with what you and Rebecca are doing together.

  9. I don't believe I've ever heard a song by Amy Winehouse, and if I have, I didn't know it.

  10. Good luck with the A to Z challenge. Alcohol abuse is awful. My father was an alcoholic it was a tough life for all of us.

  13. Susan,

Wow. That is an important topic. I'll bet most of us have known someone who had a substance abuse issue, and if you love them especially, it is hard to watch them self-destruct. Great topic.

Nice to meet you through the A to Z

  16. Isn't this the saddest song and story. It's always painful to see talented men and women lose their lives through addiction and overdose.
