On the Writing Front

I must thrive on chaos. Or be productive in spite of it. There is a world of change happening in my life right now, yet I’ve managed to write. Here’s where I am:

I completed revisions on HAUNTED, my YA contemporary novel. It has been critiqued by two, revised, and edited. I wrote a query and submitted it to two publishers. I’ve decided that I want to take a break from self-publishing. I could really use a team to help with edits, graphic design, and marketing. Maybe my opening statement has something to do with this.

I completed revisions on my memoir, OUR LIFE ON THE ROAD. I need to get it to crit. partners for feedback. I didn’t incorporate the extensive changes recommended by the publisher/editor who read it for me. Mainly because the story she suggested is not the one I truly want to write.

I started writing Book I of the trilogy after extensive development. But two pages in, I had a major brainstorm (in the middle of the night) on the backstory of two of my characters. It will deepen the story tremendously. Plus in the week between penning the first two pages, I decided to switch from first person to third person narrative. I hope to finish the first draft of Book I by July 3rd, which equates to roughly 2000 words a day. I’m going into NaNo mode in May/June.

My other ideas, which are briefly sketched out in notebooks or still residing in my head, will have to wait a bit before I breathe life into them.

What are you up to these days?

  1. Hi, Susan,

I AM SOOOOOOO IMPRESSED. How do you do it? I was LUCKY to squeeze out only 750 words in the last three days. Another excerpt from my up an coming film noir novella. I hope you have a free sec to drop by and read it.

I love the title of your y/a contemporary novel. If you'd like another set of eyes on it, let me know. I realize you are querying, but I still revise even when I query... I am so anal... LOl.

I hope you are a wonderful weekend.

  2. Sounds like you are really knocking things out of the park. I'm very impressed! I'm currently writing a novella, which I hope to finish a first draft of by the summer holidays. Life is interfering though. I'll be happy just to achieve that!

  3. Very impressive! I wish I had marked that much off of my to-do list. I am making progress though, and find myself working on my first book, while finishing my 2nd. I can't wait to start revisions and sending it out to CP's :)

  8. That's awesome. You sound very productive. I'm working on a MG manuscript right now, but I can't wait to tackle an edgy YA that I have beta reader notes on. Since I have many changes to do with that, I'm waiting until summer vacation for the rewrites.
