Thank you, Borders, for all the memories and for the wonderful books at super-discounted prices. I wish you and e-readers could have lived compatibly with one another, but change truly is inevitable in life. I will not forget you.
Here is my haul from the going-out-of-business markdowns. There may be more floating around the house. Who knows.
I had a discount card, could have bought something of great value, but couldn't bear to go in and see my favorite bookstore stripped clean. They were always so good about carrying my books! I should have at least gone in and see how they were selling at the last but it just made me too sad. I'll miss Borders. Wishing it could have been B & N instead.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sad borders is closing. They were our writing group's meeting sponsor for a few months. But I did get to shop for tons of great priced books before they totally shut down.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories, borders!

Karen, I am right there with you: I wish it would have been B&N, too. My memories are so tied to Borders. I think making the great-deal purchases came easier b/c we only have a Waldenbooks in our little town. I was never crazy about Waldenbooks.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who worked at Borders; she kept us apprised of what was flying off the shelves: classics, cookbooks, and celeb tell-alls topped the list. It was very sad. We have no bookstores in our area in south florida now except B&N and Books a Million -- not a single independent that I can think of within a 30 minute drive...
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not as nostalgic over Borders. They came to my town, caused two Indies to close, and now that they're gone . . . no bookstores here. I'm hoping another Indie will find a niche here. If they do, I'm working hard to keep their doors open.
ReplyDeleteStopped in from the Campaign to say hi!
I'll miss Borders too--I made so many wonderful forays there with our grandkids. I'm now following your blog and looking forward to your posts.
