By far, this had to be my favorite book and movie in the 1980s. Typically, I do not like movie adaptations of books, but there was some real eye candy happening in this film. Plus, I think Francis Ford Coppola did a fine job of staying true to the novel.
I was such a misfit back then that I actually carried stacks of S.E. Hinton books around with me throughout school.
Other Os in the 80s:
Oingo Boingo
Olivia Newton John
OMD
Ordinary People
One Day at a Time
Any other Os?

I was a huge Oingo Boingo fan back in the day. I rememnber when Only A Lad came out. It was so different from any other album at the time. Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteHow about the musicals 'Oklahoma' and 'Oliver'?
ReplyDeleteI still love Oingo Boingo. And I loved "The Outsiders>' I had a huge crush on Matt Dillon growing up.
ReplyDeleteLoved the novel and loved the book. I was also pretty big into Oingo Boingo. Great 'O' choices.
ReplyDeleteI'm still a huge fan of Olivia Newton John. But I missed your movie -- back to Netflex.
ReplyDeleteoh i loved one day at a time--great show of the times, especially for single moms
ReplyDeleteI definitely remember the Outsiders and One Day @ a Time. Like Kittie, I still love Olivia.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching the Outsiders in English class. And watching Grease every single weekend lol!
ReplyDeleteYeah that was a very good movie, I didn't catch it until a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteLoved both the movie and the book - "Mustangs. They're tough." (Geek alert!) :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan, for the support. You're very kind to do so.
ReplyDeleteI loved the book and the movie.
ReplyDeleteI loved this movie. I remember my friend and I went to see it when it came out, and my dad drove us. When he picked us up I was crying so much he thought something terrible had happened. He was totally irritated when it turned out the only thing that had happened was that Dally got killed LOL. I had a big crush on Matt Dillon back then, and that was very traumatic for me. :D
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten all about Oingo Boingo.
The Outsiders was the first book I ever read all the way through. It was also the first book to make me cry.
ReplyDeleteOingo Boingo! I forgot them!
ReplyDeleteThe Outsiders was huge to me. Had a big impact. I remember reading it in junior high.
Ooh, loved all your 80's O's.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else had this one as their O-word... I think it might have been Jemi?
ReplyDeleteYes, it's an iconic book. Love it!
I was obsessed with The Outsiders. (book and movie). Ponyboy is my favorite literary character of all time. I follow C. Thomas Howell and S.E. Hinton on Twitter. Both are very friendly and many times tweet back when they are online.
